I agree a with David. I think more and more niche video sites will surface. I am now seeing video sharing sites for real estate, fitness, religion, porn, etc. They may not get as many uniques as YouTube but their eyeballs are very targeted which means advertisers can narrow down sites to place their money in.

This post raises some good questions. Consolidation is inevitable as "online video" becomes a commodity. The ones that win will be the ones who connect creators/content owners with advertisers and help them to make real money.

The audience goes where the content is and content goes where money is. I predict that YouTube will be the first to really find a way for content owners to make real money and they already have the audience. Niche online video sites (like mine) will still exist because they focus on building a community around the content but in order to survive, they will have to aggregate their audience with other sites, essentially being like a channel.

We just signed a deal with the top Caribbean music tv station in Jamaica and will begin to distribute their content online. I see more of those deals for niche sites that can build the brand, build an audience and generate revenue for content partners.

We also signed a deal to become YouTube's first official Caribbean media partner. I don't believe in "singing in the park by myself" as one of our advisors eloquently put it.

Imagine an online version of Viacom that owns online video websites for different niches and then sells that entire audience to advertisers. Individual niche sites can't get much more than 10 million uniques per month but owning 20 such niche sites provides a massive audience (there will of course be overlap).

Just my thoughts about where we are heading in the online video world.
