He loved poring over every detail while sipping port (great taste even then). I enjoyed working with him then as he seemed to be the only calm and sane person I met in B school. I was immediately impressed by his intelligence and insight, and charmed by his wit and passion. His idea of balance meant going full bore at several seemingly unrelated things - but they all came together and informed one another, and made him a whole person.
