ScreenshotAs web workers, we’re utterly tied to the internet. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that the infrastructure that the internet is built upon is reaching its limits. Whether it’s the move of applications to Amazon S3 and Google AppEngine, or the attempts of carriers to limit bandwidth to keep their networks unclogged, people are exploring ways to make the internet work better as the online economy continues to boom.

That’s the topic of Structure08 – a one-day conference being organized and hosted by our parent blog GigaOM. There are a batch of topics on the schedule that will be of interest to entrepreneurial web workers – from a panel discussion of how to take advantage of the next generation infrastructure to a look a the state of online databases to discussions of venture capital.Structure08 is happening today, from 8AM to 8:30PM Pacific time.. Although it’s too late for you to get there in person (registration sold out some time ago), web workers can still participate vicariously: they’re promising live blogging and live video streaming over at GigaOM. If you’ve got some spare time today, or just need a background stream to watch as your web work allows, it’s worth checking out.
