Sony (NYSE: SNE) is following up its deal to show BSkyB’s (NYSE: BSY) UK TV programming via its handset PSP console with a similar partnership with France’s Canal+. The broadcaster’s CanalPlay VOD service, offering around 4,000 shows and 2,500 movies, will be made available from June 18, Variety says, noting France has two million PSP users.

Like the BSkyB tie-up, which at first promised wireless download to the handheld, the CanalPlay offering will also rely on download to PC then transfer to console, however – a slight disappointment. Content will stay on the PSP for 48 hours before expiring.

Canal is no stranger to mobile TV – in February, it reported 250,000 subscribers for its mobile TV offerings carried by the SFR and Bouygues networks. The BSkyB PSP effort is dubbed Go!View.
