Denny, I think you're right on the money here. Take a look at Hugh MacLeod's 'Gaping Void' website; he's also an entrepreneur and has some fantastic insights.

'The price of being a sheep is boredom
The price of being a wolf is loneliness
Choose one or the other with great care.'

Only a hungry entreprenur can understand how important the dark nights of rejection actually are. Only s/he knows how cold, long and lonely they are in the beginning. But, I love the taste of blood in my mouth and I'd grit my teeth and endure another thousand of them if I had to.

Happy hunting, fellow wolves!

I thought that here somebody will help me.

From www.omfica.org I found the following "ICDL is a new standard for web site creators to describe web page structure and content for web crawlers. It gives an opportunity to web crawlers to obtain more precise information about web sites (URLs, pages, HTML structure, and thematic content). ICDL is compatible with existing Semantic Web concepts defined by W3C (RDF and OWL). "

Is that project really compatible with existing ones, or I just waste my time on registering there and becoming a member?

Ben - thanks for the link. I explored your blog and enjoyed reading the following article as well. As we both agree, it is a character flaw and NOT a disease because disease means there is a cure, or potential cure ... ;-)

Wow....."entrepreneurship is a character flaw." That's a classic! I was really taken aback as I was reading this because your thoughts are so similar to a those I expressed on a post I wrote earlier this week. It was called <a href="http://www.ben-means-business.com/2008/04/talk-to-hand.html" rel="nofollow">Why Negativity is Great for Your Business</a>. Check it out. Our sentiments are eerily similar.

This is a Great article. The most rejected people I know are successful like Denny says...Rejection is an opportunity to grow and learn.

Honesty hurts but it is a very valuable teacher.

Great article - I recommend everyone reading this including young adults.

There is so much truth here...Great Job....Keep writing these types of articles......

Never really thought of entrepreneurship as a disease but... maybe there is something fundamentally different about people obsessed with ideas and with creating businesses.

The line about how "entrepreneurship is a deep desire to create and destroy at the same time" is great because entrepreneurship often involves seeing flaws in existing systems that can be fixed, essentially rejecting other people's successful yet imperfect creations (as well as your own).

Ivan - I agree. It is a lot closer to heroin than marijuana ... ;-). It is an obsession and it is an addiction. It drives us to extreme highs and lows and the only cure, if there is one, is to keep doing it. On the other hand, I believe entrepreneur is part of the check-and-balance in free-market capitalism. Without it, tyranny would rein ... at least that's what I tell my wife when I couldn't bring in the paycheck.

Reading this brought a stab of tears to my eyes.

"My experience is that entrepreneurship is, in fact, a character flaw. Entrepreneurship is not something that can be rationalized and easily explained away. Entrepreneurship is a deep desire to create and destroy at the same time. It requires simultaneous distain for authorities and respect for past artisans. In fact, if I thought there was a cure, I would have taken the pill."

I've often told people that this thing is worse than heroin. I've also told people that I think I've proved that entrepreneurism is deep in my soul. I've been away, but inexorably I come back. It started when I was younger than ten - I can recall the emotions such ideas generated t hen, and I know I still work the same way.

Chris - thanks for the comment. Entrepreneurship is definitely not a disease, but most of us are running out of excuses in trying to explain it away. It is definitely not a logical career choice. For younger entrepreneurs who are doing startup for the first time (often right out of college or even dropping out of school), this is a tough discovery. The irony is that they don't have the option to wait neither (until they have more life experience) because the web-based opportunities are here and now. So this is the downside of being an "entre-sumers".

augustus - I actually devote an entire on dealing with setback, failure and rejection. There is no magic to it, one just to have to get up and ride again.

Entrepreneurship is not a disease, I think. Instead, I'd say it's a desire for a more meaningful mode of work. Jobs consist of passing stuff down a line, or a tree-shaped personnel structure, but entrepreneurship is the ability to sculpt your own work.

Being an entrepreneur myself and gone thru some failures I enjoy your writings.

I think you are right entrepreneurship is a character trait. Feels like no matter how much I make working for others one misses the freedom and challenges.

its like you are lion that was meant to hunt in a forest and putting in a zoo won't work no matter how good the food.

Good reading although you don't explain how to deal with rejection. I guess there is no answer. Everyone has to deal with it himself.
