I have been using Opera Mini 4.0 on my BlackBerry for months and it’s easily become one of my favorite mobile browsers.  It provides a rich browsing experience even given the limitations of the small screen and one-handed operation.  It was with great joy I heard from Opera that Opera Mini 4.1 beta is now available and I installed it right away on my BB 8830.  The improvements they have made to Opera Mini are impressive and it is an absolute joy to use.  You can get Opera Mini 4.1 beta here and you should note that it installs alongside (not replaces) any older version of the browser you might have installed.  Here’s a list of the main improvements added to 4.1:

  • 50% faster due to server-side processing
  • Find in page option
  • Download web pages for offline viewing
  • URL auto-complete

Don’t miss the video overview that Opera has put together on the linked page above.  Well done, Opera!

  1. Looks like it also doesn’t care about the suretype keyboard on my Shadow. It assumes I have a standard number keypad, so my delete key does nothing, my “6,J,K” key is interpreted as a “6,M,N,O” key, etc.

    booooo!

Also, I can’t seem to find a way to get rid of that mouse and use left and right to page down. It’s all the number keys for paging down now. which sucks, because that means I have to keep the phone slid open to use it.

    double boo!
