This weekend I stumbled upon the freshly live Comedy.com site. While Chris has told us many times that there are just too many comedic web video portals on the Internet, this one’s pedigree and approach is at least worth noting. Founded by Dean Valentine, former CEO of UPN and president of Walt Disney Television and Animation, and Scott Immergut, former VP of production at Disney, the site has already licensed five original shows. It also has funding from Prism VentureWorks.

I wasn’t able to successfully join the site, but it looks like users have the ability to upload video as well as to bring in embeds of favorite clips from around the web to add to the Digg-like “The LOL List.” You can also LOL or heckle any video.

Comedy.com currently features a daily news show called Newest New News, hosted by Aaron Gingrich and Mychal Utecht, both graduates of Second City Conservatory and partners in Competitive Awesome.

The site has also signed weekly installments of Make A Hot Girl Laugh (self-explanatory — actually a pretty tight 3-minute concept), Loopy (improv comedians dub new dialog over web videos — occasionally very funny), The HollyWoody Show (interviews at the AVN Expo), Pervert Clown (uggh…self-explanatory).

Other features include a comedy club locater and comedian listings. The company hasn’t built its own video player, using Ooyala as its host. We don’t see any advertising yet, but Ooyala also makes in-video ad technology (our coverage).

We’ve contacted Comedy.com for more details and will update after the holiday weekend. For now, it’s clearly early days, but you don’t have to be a member to check things out.
