@Alistar -- pretty funny observation. The telcos all complain about Google's deep pockets but then line those pockets by buying adwords ads... market forces at work!

When I was at CES I read a copy of Microsoft's hilarious, “Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House?” While it was a kid's story, the fine print in the foreleaf was actually a bit more chilling. It said:

“Use of Windows Home Server’s remote access features may require additional services from your broadband provider, such as access to certain “ports” that some providers may block for some customers on some service plans.”

That's a pretty concrete example of the erosion of net neutrality. When you do a Google search for Net Neutrality, all the unpaid links want it, and the one paid ad is from a telecom lobby group. Sort of makes it clear who wins on each side of the argument, no?

When you buy a car it comes with a window sticker showing all of the details. When you buy a can of baked beans it comes with a label showing the nutritional value.

But when you buy internet service you get nothing. Years ago I was surprised to learn that my Comcast cable internet speed was being choked but for an extra charge I could get a faster connection. Extra charge? I was already paying $42 per month!

ISP's should have the right to control traffic over their networks but at the same time they should be required to provide consumers with all of the facts for comparison purposes.
