I teased everyone earlier with something I had ordered and since Fujitsu is now saying the estimated ship date is not until Feb. 29th I’ll come clean so as not to make everyone wait that long to find out what it is. I ordered a Fujitsu P1620 or Myagi Jr. as one commenter called it. The P1610 was just about the perfect mobile PC for me with the exception of some anemic components and the refreshed P1620 should correct that nicely. The unit I ordered is configured thusly:
1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
2 GB memory
100 GB hard drive (4200 rpm)
Vista Business
This configuration should run Vista properly and if it doesn’t Fujitsu is doing something cool and including XP recovery disks for devices pre-installed with Vista. The P1620 wasn’t the cheapest computer by anyone’s standards but is one of the nicest form factors available and I can’t wait to get this baby. Complete specs after the jump.

So… James where will this fit in your mobile day? Does this replace the 2710p for you?
My birthday’s also coming up later this month if you want to get one for me James :)
Congratulations! Hope it arrives on time; folks on leog.net have had ship dates rescheduled a couple times…
Congrats, I continue to be very happy with my 1610 (running XP) – but will be veeery interested to see how you make out with the “improved” screen…
Congrats, James on your Miyagi Jr!!
Meanwhile, I went ahead and got a Mini-Miyagi Jr as I got the U810… ;-)
So far, really enjoying it!
First thing I did was ‘upgrade it to XPT’ using the included recovery disk…
Second thing was to replace the 40GB HD with a 100GB/8MB buffer HD….
So, havin’ fun with this lil’ bad boy….
;-)
Congrats on the new device!
Question: Why did you opt for a tablet with a passive digitizer? I love the form factor of the P1620, too, but I just can’t get past the passive digitizer… Am I making too much of it?
what are the main differences between this and the U810??
You know we’ll want every detail once it arrives! You’ve got me extremely interested in getting one myself – even though I was previously committed to the P7230. You’ve opened my eyes to a different possibility…and more mobility.
For David:
P1620 processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor Ultra Low Voltage U7600
U810 processor: Intel® processor A110
P1620 screen size: 8.9″
U810 screen size: 5.6″
P1620 hard drives are available up to 100GB or 32GB SSD; U810 one size 40GB
U810 weight: 1.56lbs, P1620: 2.2lbs
Price: U810 $999-$1099, P1620: $1750 – $2250
Among the most significant, IMHO, is the fact you can actually type on the 1620′s keyboard. The U810 is better for shorter text messaging.
and about a 1000K…thats my main question…
Kevin pretty much gave it away when he chimed in. I know how much you liked the p1610 and this should be 10 more gooder than that! :D
