“First come, first served” took a whole new meaning at the San Francisco Apple store today, where Macbook Airs were out of stock within minutes of hitting the shelves. There were only a lucky few who got their hands on the ultra-light laptop that has received mixed reviews thus far. Throngs of curious onlookers, however, didn’t pay any attention to what experts had to say. Their question: When can I get one? Yeah, I asked the same question and then walked back home. Here are a couple of photos of the MacBook Air station at the SF store.

After all the negative comments about the MBA, it’s a surprise that they are all sold out. Best Buy will be carrying this too. They’ve been advertising it. Hope you are feeling better Om. Good to hear you walked home. I’m getting a dog just to get me out of my home office and walk more!

Don’t get so excited. Maybe they only got 20 MBAir’s in stock. I’m joking.
The main thing is will it continue to sell out after the ultra Mac enthusiasts have bought them all. It probably won’t get any switchers. I’m dying to see what type of person is buying it and what they’re using them for. I wouldn’t mind carrying one around the house in place of my MacBook Pro. It would suit me well for 90% of the things I need.
I just hope it sells well and loses the tag of being another Mac Cube.

Are you kidding? This thing was made for executives and salespeople who travel all the time. They will be ditching either inferior ultraportables or heavy Dells for MBAirs. Probably a lot of them will be Parallels or VMWare users, but it should sell like hotcakes to that demographic.

@Ted, as a constantly-on-the-go MBP user who runs VMWare Fusion for a small handful of Windows applications in XP, I shudder to think of the experience those switchers will have as they try to do the same on a MBA with a 80 GB drive and one USB port.
Now that we’re getting to the point of real world “I took this on a trip” as opposed to the “I can picture who this would be good for” we’re currently enjoying, we’ll see how it does.

You would think with all the hype surrounding the MBA, Apple would make sure there would be ample stock ….but I suppose these days having a popular over hyped product going out of stock makes consumers want it even more .

Let’s not limit the range of the new Macbook Airs; it’s everybody’s freedom to have one if you have the money. One thing for sure, the time when Macbook reach the Philippines, surely it will be sold like hotcakes! Everybody’s dying to have one…

I admire Apple’s fanatical following, I bet some of the first wave of Apple buyers do not even care what they are paying for as long as it is Mac branded…

The MBA is absolutely perfect for me. Just got it this Friday. The light-weight is stunning, and the keyboard is better than my MBP. I am a mobile user, so the lack of a cd drive is no big deal. It is just a delight to use, to touch, look at. I’m obsessed!
