Hollywood’s writers don’t seem to contribute much to the quality of our TV or movie entertainment. It might not be their fault, but the fact remains that one’s compensation depends, at least in the long run, on the profitability of the projects he is involved in, how much that success depends on his contribution, how many other people there are who could do as good a job and what they would charge for doing it.

There are thousands of people out there who would do a better job writing scripts, and for lots less than the current crop in Hollywood. Given this, the best thing that could happen for us and Hollywood is a dissolution of the writer’s union and a new bunch of people taking their seats.
