A true virtual assistant is a person who owns their own business and pursues their own clientele. They don't use agencies to get work for them, and they don't do telecommuting or occasional on-the-fly projects. Virtual assistants partner with clients to form a collaborative working relationship. Their clients include businesses who fit into their chosen fields or specialties.

OK, let's get this straight:

Elance, in an effort to promote their service, is financing a few of their customers' interactions with their subcontractors? Wonderful. Does Elance actually have any sort of controls in place to then make sure that the contractors are worth doing business with?

Being in the VA business, I'm pretty comfortable saying that while the concept of the VA is a great one, the execution as I've seen it to this point is (mostly) skewed toward getting results for the broker (Elance), rather than for the customer. And the actual service provider? All but out-in-the-cold.

Hey wait . . . I think I just did a holiday contest too! Here's the pitch: "Come Visit Us at Virtual VIP, and we'll make your VA needs actually work out. For Everyone".
