People generally prefer to give the answers that will make you feel good.  If you say, &quot;I&#039;m thinking about building this, would you buy it?&quot;, you&#039;ll get a lot of &quot;yes&quot; answers.  If you follow up every yes with a &quot;actually, I was just kidding.  I&#039;ve already built it and it&#039;s at [this URL]/[this store]/[in the trunk of my car over there]...  Let&#039;s get your credit card number down on this order form and we&#039;ll get you signed up!&quot;, you&#039;ll get a VERY different set of answers.

Simple market research like you suggest will tell you whether the problem is pervasive.  Digging a little deeper is the only way to know if the problem is painful enough that people REALLY want to pay for a solution.

Of course, the best way is to just build the damn thing.</description>
