New York Rangers, run by Madison Square Garden LP, which in turn is a Cablevision Systems unit, has filed a lawsuit against National Hockey League, alleging that NHL is violating antitrust laws by seeking to control the team’s websites, and said that “NHL has become an illegal cartel”. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in New York, asks the judge to block NHL from seizing control of team-related businesses. NHL has threatened to impose “abusive and outrageous fines” unless the Garden surrenders control over team merchandising, licensing, and advertising, the suit says, reported on by Bloomberg.

AP: The lawsuit said the NHL insisted last week that MSG transfer control over the Rangers site, including the “nyrangers.com” address so that the league could convert it into one of 30 “cookie-cutter” club Web sites at “nhl.com.” The lawsuit said MSG had spent years developing the site to market Rangers hockey in competition with other NHL teams. By seizing the site, the NHL would eliminate competition between teams and harm consumers.

Reuters: The Garden, which is not seeking punitive damages, said it had spent six years cultivating a sophisticated and popular Rangers Web site, which includes video clips from games and access to team merchandise.

The NHL is stealing google page rank value from this valuable resource (THE
NYrangers.com site – all the sub pages would be become the content of the
league and then become non competitive – the NHL is robbing the train and leaving the Rangers in the ditch. The NHL knows exactly what they are doing – stealing page rank from all 21 teams is pretty sneaky and the only ones that
are standing up are the Rangers.

  3. These team websites also have bulletin boards for their fans. And on these boards there has been strong criticism of Gary Bettman for one ludicrous move after another of this worst commissioner in pro sports. Adding a 3rd point to "some" games which completely distorts the final standings as some games end up worth 50% more than other games. Over expansion and too many teams. Too many penalties many for absolutely no reason which makes ateam play with 1 or 2 less players and takes the game out of the players' hands and into the rfs hands. NHL refs have more power to alter outcome than any other referees. On these boards of real hockey fans anyone who bashes Bettman and his ruining of a great sport is banned and their posts are deleted. The press never focuses on any of these issues like they do in other sports. Suppose NFL or MLB players were betting with an illegal bookmaker , now convicted Tocchet, and commissioner deflected it and did nothing to those players or yet to Tocchet, this would be a big issue. The referee in chief of the NHL until last 2 years was a known gambler and former referee. Bettman shafted that owner who tried to buy the Nashville team and move them to Hamilton. He put teams into cities with little interest in hockey. For example the Carolina/Montreal game on Wednseday night was only available in Carola on NHL center ice and only in French for Carolina fans. He moved teams out of Canada where they outdrew and always outdrew these southern cities. And he refuses to move teams back to Canada. He wants a team in Las Vegas -FIGURES.

Those bulletin boards on those team websites also are a big reason this dwarf Bettman who doesn't know the first thing about hockey wants sole control/
