As the Fall TV season approaches, the activity level is going crazy: every day new announcements, counter-announcements, and, well, posturing. Now, a day after NBC announced free ad-supported downloads of its shows and ABC announced its free streaming deal with AOL (NYSE: TWX), Fox has come out with its own announcement: season premiere episodes of seven of its programs will be made available for free through Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) iTunes store. These include “Prison Break,” “Bones,” “American Dad” and “K-Ville.”…the hope is that serves as a promo for people to watch it on TV or pay for future episodes on iTunes. NBC and CBS (NYSE: CBS) have done this promo deals before with iTunes, but those one for one-off shows…this Fox deal is broader. Whether it will make a dent: hard to see how.
