What a load of bull....

Vivek Ranadive is a flannel merchant who delivers no substance in this article. Just exactly what tools is he recommending we all adopt !!

The criticisms he raises can already be addressed using current stable ERP tools. How ridiculous is his ATM example ? My ATM doesn't have this language problem, this is not a legacy technical problem at all, it's just an example of a designer or programmer that didn't include a particular feature.

Open your eyes everyone..

Great interview and wonderfully frank comments from Mr Ranadivé. I totally agree that the desire to move to real-time is growing fast across industries.

At my current company we do a lot of work in the Telecom and Online worlds, industries where a lot of processes are real-time already (think of a subscriber's prepaid balance going down minute by minute as they make a call).

In the interview comments are made about the nervous system (sensing information networks) and the muscles (BPM effectors), both of which are things that Tibco can sell.

But a key missing element is clearly the brain: systems that can look at all of the real-time information flows, recognize patterns, make predictions, play out what-if scenarios, and then make intelligent decisions on what to do next.

This brings us into the realm of AI technologies, which have over-promised and under-delivered in the past. So much so that real AI successes are rarely labeled AI these days.

i think BI is still a valuable tool for an enterprise. But BI should be used real time not just for reporting. It should be used for BPM, should be used for finding when a customer can become unhappy and act on it before he becomes unhappy.

Excellent! I thought I was the only one that felt I am being held hostage by the database, legacy infrastructure and IT FUD. Thank you for posting this interview, it is the best thing I have read all week.
