Following up from yesterday’s official EU endorsement of the DVB-H standard or mobile TV, the German Competition Office will give the go-ahead to a proposal from T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2 to set up a separate company to build and operate a DVB-H service in the country, says Telecom Paper (sub req’d). The operators intend for the service to be launched in the Spring of 2008, and initially it will run at least 16 channels. It is still not clear what the EU’s decision will mean for companies like Debitel, the German mobile provider that has opted for the DMB standard for its TV service.
