Hi Paul,

The idea behind structuring the electricity tariffs for dynamic pricing (i.e. Demand Response) is so that the consumer is no worse off financially, but has enough incentive to shift power usage to a different time of day. Often, in the rate structures, these "off peak" tariffs are lower than the flat rate today -- so in the end, a good automation system could reduce your energy bill.

Paul, Perhaps, but not necessarily. The point of the technology is that if you can see that the price is higher when there is more demand, you turn it down, and pay less.

Interesting idea and I'm all for reduction of energy use. "Dynamic electricity prices" and prices based on supply and demand sound like it will cost me more money, though.
