Minor problem with Jesse's claim above: With WiFi being unlicensed spectrum, the power output is limited by FCC (and hence very poor building penetration, if at all..Hell, I can't get decent coverage from my own unit in my home) and it will be a junkyard of signals emanating from everyone's home WiFi units interfering with each other. No guarantee of access, no guarantee of QoS of any type. Mobile WiMAX has all those advantages; but that said I don't think it is going to displace cellular data (3G & its variants) anytime soon.

WiFi does support handoffs and security. WiMAX will face building penetration challenges too. WiFi is still cheaper to build out. WiMAX will be less expensive to maintain.

Wifi is not secure, does not sopprt hand offs, does not have good in building coverage and by nature is a lot more expensive to build out and maintain
