Meebo Adds Media-Viewing Rooms

Web instant-messaging startup Meebo launched chat rooms for its users tonight, including a pretty neat feature that embeds video and other media into the discussion (see below). We just posted on it at NewTeeVee and have been having a lot of fun chatting with people coming by to read the post. Here’s the same widget that’s embedded on NewTeeVee; any chat that appears here will be shown anywhere the widget is displayed. Update: Widget removed — moderation was too much work!

Read the full write-up at NewTeeVee.

Update: We have Meebo CEO Seth Sternberg chatting now if you want to ask him questions.

Disclosure: Meebo is funded by True Ventures, as is GigaOM.

A few years back many big sites had live chats along with their forums. It looks like Meebo rooms is a re-incarnation of that forgotten feature. Nice to have, but actually, nothing new here.
