I recently gave a talk at a conference on Five Lies of the Start-up. One was "finally a chance to do it right." The reality is, being an employee means a lot of armchair quarterbacking, and being a founder means a lot of opportunity to do exactly what you hated in your boss.

You change perspectives when you are the one watching the bank account slowly diminish, when you are the one to close a deal with a company you didn't like, when you are the one doing support calls at 6 a.m. for the east coast. No one really knows what a choice costs until it's your *ss on the line.}
