I am using Vz FiOS for internet and 8X8 (Packet*) service for VoIP phone.
Phone does not ring at time, asked 8X8 Tech Supp, they are asking me to create a DMZ in Actiontec RTR, VZ says no need for that.
Cancelling 8X8 at end of contract, looking into Vonage, since VZ still does not have a residential VoIP svc.
Any suggestions folks, pls inform. Thanks.

I was using Teleblend (before that sunrocket) with Verizon FIOS for almost 2 years without any problem. But for last 2 weeks, my phone is not working,
sometimes there is no dial tone. Even when it has dial tone, iam not able to make or receive any calls from this phone. I checked with TEleblend and they said, FIOS could be blocking some ports (TCP 80, UDP 5060 through 5070 and/or UDP ports 16384 - 65535). So when i checked with FIOS, they said, they are blocking ports 80 8080 25 110. So my question here is if they are blocking TCP 80 all these time, then how come i was able to use VOIP for last 2 years. Pls let somebody who had similar experience share anything they know.

I got FIOS from Verizon Actiontec router model MI424-WR. The firmware version is 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7. I added T-mobile @home as my phone service. But it doesn’t work. I get nothing, nada, zero. T-Mobile says it's a Verizon issue and Verizon says it's a T-Mobile issue. I had a similar issue with my setup at work, although in that case I was using a Cisco 800 router with the Actiontec. The Actiontec doesnt support bridging which would help resolve the problem. At my office I had Verizon enable the WAN port. Once I connected a cable from the wan port to my Cisco the VOIP worked.
I called Verizon to do the same at my house and now they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I got FIOS from Verizon with Coax connection to their Actiontec router. Now I wanted to add T-mobile @home as my phone service. But it doesn't work. The phone signal goes out but no tone comes back. The T-mobile system works fine on my neighbors Comcast cable internet. Why not on FIOS? I tried different settings on the Actiontec router but always with the same result: nothing changes. I read some articles on the web. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem. The T-mobile technical support had no clue what is going on and referred to the internet provider (Verizon) for help.

All with FIOS problems,

I have had FIOS for going on two years and have had Vonage just as long. Please keep in mind that 99 percent of all the problems I have seen reported in this message thread can be directly contributed to the router being used and not some sinister plan by Verizon on the FIOS network. The great part is.... YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THAT ROUTER! Feel free to pick out any available ethernet router which will fully support PPPoE connections. There is nothing magical about the router Verizon provided you and contrary to the beleifs by some in this thread the only reason for Verizons choice of the router they supplied was cost (you get what you pay for).

I have used many different routers on my FIOS connection without any problems and have found that if price is your concern a Linksys or D-Link brand DSL router is a great choice. I even used my Vonage supplied router as my FIOS connection for a while and only replaced it with a commercial router (Cisco 2651XM) recently for the additional flexability it provided me.

What I am trying to say is please be aware that the FIOS service itself is just fine, your free router they provided for connectivity on the other hand may more accuratly reflect it's cost.

Off my soapbox now :-)

Sridhar,
I will ask around here about your issue, but it seems like there would be another problem. I've heard of no such blocking here at Verizon, and besides Jeff himself would have called it to my attention. Jeff Pulver is a happy FiOS internet customer; I know because I asked him just this month in person about his service. If he were having any FWD issues, I'm sure he'd have mentioned it. In fact, I will also ask him if he's heard of such isses. Let's get to the bottom of your problem. You can find me on Twitter @CZ.

Verizon FIOS in Bellevue WA is doing to VoIP what Comcast did/does to BitTorrent. I configured my asterisk server for outbound registration with Jeff Pulver's FWD service, and i was seeing SIP [600 Interval Too Brief] responses. After a lot of troubleshooting, it turns out that the SIP 600 responses are not from FWD. I moved the asterisk server to a Comcast Internet connection, and outbound FWD registration works fine.

Importantly, Verizon does not block all outbound SIP, only to certain providers (eg. FWD). I was able to register with another SIP provider using the Verizon FIOS account. I guess this is in line with their "plausible deniability" strategy. Shame on Verizon!

My vonage worked flawlessly on fios until this morning. Callers to my number heard a busy signal in spite of my voice mail and bounce line. Spent four hours with the vonage tech and still couldn't resolve the issue. The engineers will check compatibility issues next. Too bad it will take up to two business days. Today is Friday that means it may take til Tuesday to resolve this problem. If fios is the problem I will switch back to cablevision. Vonnage was very compatible with Optimum on line.

Thanks Chris. In order to better understand the issue do you know if the Vonage router needs a specific IP address or just the first? I'd rather not shut everything down since there are other ways to make sure the Vonage router gets a specific IP address. Also, do you know why it matters what IP address the Vonage router gets? Thanks!

You need to shut down your whole system, PC, both routers and any other PC's or devices accessing the wireless router. Leave them off for about five mins. so the IP addresses are released. Restart them in this order: 1) ActionTec 2) Vonage 3) PC and then 4) any other devices. Do not restart the PC until the Vonage router has synced up. This will allow the assignment of the 1st IP address to the Vonage router. This should clear up your issue.

I have the Linksys RT31P2 Vonage router behind an ActionTec MI424-WR and I have been losing the phone connection regularly. I can't say how often because I only notice it when I happen to look at the router and notice that the light next to Phone 1 is out. The Internet light is fine. I pick up the phone and there's no dial tone. Unplugging the Linksys and replugging it in fixes it for a while but I have no way of knowing how many calls I've missed. I don't know if Verizon is blocking it or if it's just some setting that I need to figure out.

Upgraded today to firmware version 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7

Mitel 5212 phone is now registering to the switch in Teleworker mode.

To upgrade to the newest firmware on the MI424WR:

Login to the router using a web browser pointed to the routers internal IP address... 192.168.x.x

go to advanced, click yes.

click on firmware upgrade, click check now. Your browser will really not show you much here...

Click on force upgrade, then wait. Your router will do the rest.

It will take about 5 minutes to upgrade. The router will reboot. Try to log into the router again. If the main page does not pull up, just wait longer. Once you can login to the router again, go check the firmware version on the advanced page. Mine is version 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7 after to upgrade.

I hope this has fixed my Cisco 7940 phone. It was dropping calls at exactly 15:10 minutes. Very strange.

Cheers,

I hope this has fixed my Cisco 7940 phone. It was dropping calls at exactly 15:10 minutes. Very strange.

Cheers,

I have had alot of connection problems using the Actiontec router,no one else in my home does but me,we each have 4 laptops 3 are sony vaio's including mine and a desktop,at first I thought it was my network card, spent hours on the phone with sony,I tried the connection at my job and stayed on without any problems,I decided to sign on with my ip on verizon and changed the firewall settings to the lowest and so far have been on for 7 hours without any problems, hopefully thats the end of the dipping in the connection! I do think it is a dhcp server problem, everytime I got that yellow triangle and red x I noticed the dhcp server value disappeared, another strange thing is in my network folder where it lists my network connection all of a sudden it shows unspecified for my comp but as long as I stay connected it dont matter!
