Wagner James Au, Monday, April 30, 2007 at 1:34 AM PT Comments (49)

If you have a young niece or daughter, you’ve almost certainly seen her puttering with Zwinky, the pop-eyed cartoon avatar-based social network– sort of a cutesy MySpace for kids, run from a browser toolbar interface. Techcrunch just reported that InteractiveCorp, the company behind Zwinky, will launch a virtual world tie-in. Transitioning from toolbar to [...]

Om Malik, Monday, April 30, 2007 at 12:11 AM PT Comments (2)

Carphone Warehouse, UK-based mobile phone retail chain, which has made (and lost some of its) name as Talk Talk, a free broadband provider, in the UK is looking to cross the pond and come to the US, to open… a chain of cell phone stores. The company is currently working with Best Buy on a [...]

Om Malik, Monday, April 30, 2007 at 12:01 AM PT Comments (2)

A few weeks after Google made an astonishing $3.1 billion bid for DoubleClick, The New York Times is reporting that Yahoo will acquire the remaining 80% of New York-based Right Media, an online ad-exchange company, backed by Redpoint Ventures, for about $680 million. Yahoo had previously bought 20% of Right Media.

Wagner James Au, Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:08 PM PT Comments (6)

The debate over the value of advertising in the metaverse just got a lot more interesting. That still seems largely true, but now a new study from Seattle-based Global Market Insite strongly implies that it’s not [...]

While we all appreciate that broadband is crucial for global competitiveness, it might not be enough.
That is why, Economic Intelligence [...]

Om Malik, Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:04 AM PT Comments (14)

Vudu, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based start-up is getting a lot of buzz this morning, thanks to a rather extensive article in the New York Times. Their set-top box is supposed to make downloading and watching movies a pleasurable experience, and do an end run around Cable companies’ Video-on-demand offering.
If Vudu succeeds, it may mean goodbye [...]

Kevin Kelleher, Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 12:00 AM PT Comments (14)

ANALYSIS (Q1 2007 Earnings Season): Internet companies are playing a game of stump the analysts. And they’re winning.
For the second straight quarter, the research desks on Wall Street have significantly and pretty consistently fallen short in their earnings estimates.
This is no small matter for analysts. Their job is to query the company, talk to its [...]
