i give the product a 4 out of 5. the audio quality is good, all though when i'm surfing the www, i noticed the audio "hiccups" while loading the webpages. I attribute that to limited bandwidth; my ISP connection is 768 downstream/ 384 upstream. I read somewhere that mJ req. 128k up & down. I had to dedicate some bandwidth to the "compu" running the mJ, from within my router, to alleviate the problem.

I have tried to run this device on a machine w/ XP-64bit, under Remote desktop, and the magicjack.exe doesn't detect any audio devices, even though i have a cordless plugged into it. I imagine that the software engineers coded the software to run live only, and not in Remote desktop (bummer). I can connect a monitor and keyboard to the machine w/ the mJ, and the software will detect the audio devices, including the "USB Intenet Phone by Tigerjet", then it runs properly. i can disconnect the monitor and keyboard, and as long as the "compu" doesn't go into standby, it will continue to run, being accessible in remote desktop from another "compu" after about 24 hrs, the audio quits working, the app no longer detects the audio devices, and i have to reconnect the keyboard, and Monitor, and log in, and restart the mJ app, and the audio issue dissappears.
I don't leave my other computers running all of the time, so it would be nice if there was a work-around that would allow this device to run under Remote Desktop, that way, one could have a machine connected to a home network, and have mJ on it, running all of the time, thereby, having an uninterrupted phoneline, and be able to access it using the home network, and remote desktop. I hope they release an update to allow Remote Desktop!

all in all, its a good product. I wonder how Dan can afford to run his telecommunications network, with the revenue from this product being priced relatively low, must be running very lean! it seems that they are actively developing the software to address the issues that people so readily "bitch" about! Hopefully, he can stay in business, and the other telecommunications Giants will have their monopolies broken, Ha Haa!

I've had nothing but good luck with MJ. Why do you think anything else is different with the EULA terms? Do you really think people aren't listening in on your regular phone? How else do you think they track down leads about people?

MAGICJACK TIPS: HOW TO PLACE SKYPE CALLS WITH YOUR CORDLESS PHONE

Users of the magicJack can now enjoy the added benefits of Skype including video calling, conference calling and free Skype to Skype user calls worldwide.

A new Skype dual mode calling software plugin "SkyjackPlugin" for magicJack users has been released. The plugin allows magicJack and Skype calls to be placed concurrently from the same regular or cordless phone.

To place Skype calls just dial * before the number you want to call. Speed dial numbers are available for dialing other Skype users. Regular magicJack calls are placed as normal. For incoming calls, just answer the phone when it rings.

"SkyjackPlugin" can be downloaded at http://www.pcphonesoft.com

Magicjack to magicjack calls are for free and magicjack to anywhere in the US and Canada are for free. Even if it's not magicjack number. When you connect it into the USB port of your computer it occupies two drivers which is the E: F: drive sometimes it conflicts with the other flash drives so it will not install properly, but most probably it depends how fast your computer is the magicjack will still work. Make sure your computer operating is working well with the capable parts because if not your computer will slow down. There are some customers complaining but once they have tried to use the magicjack to a different computer, it will work.

I bought a magic Jack just to "try the hype" over this. I have now cancelled AT&T and my Vonage line as this thing is AWESOME! I can't believe how easy and perfect it works! Why in the heck would ATT not buy this thing and kill it or use it as a new model and revenue generating product? I have over 1000 minutes on it and it has never "quit". I am buying 2 more and sending Christmas presents with it to all my nieces, nephews and family!

The best way to use a magicjack is to have a dedicated computer with no other programs running in the background, I would use a Atom processor 270 or the dual core processor, you can get them for about $70 or so, and can be built for under $250, without using a hard drive, in fact it can run off a USB flashdisk of 4 GB.
The advantages of using a dedicated computer is that there will be no conflicts in software or memory issues. you might be able to use Windows 98SE for all I know, or use Windows XP.
Also using the Atom processor computer will use less then $3 a MONTH IN ELECTRICITY if you were to run it 24/7 365 days a year. The first year of service would be a wash, you would break even with the cost of the unit and first year service would set you back about $400 with electricity use included,
I was paying $33.00 a month with taxes that $396 with another popular internet phone company.
Your second year of service ,if you buy the 5 year plan will be less then $4 a month for service with taxes. That a savings of $350 a year.
A lot of people complain about callls breaking up or dropping, is because the bandwidth of your ISP is not enough, you need to have at least 4 Mbs speed, some people are using 3 or less which is not fast enough, especially if you have multiple computers. Wi-fi routers can be used with caution, make sure your signal is good or better for best results, especially when your using a VIOP service with a computer that is not a dedicated computer.
MagicJack does work with Server 2003 R2, and home server as well, but your best option is still to use a dedicated box,
You'll be going green and saving the green in the long run.

I know a lot of people seem to bash the magic jack, but hello. It's $20 a year! Would you really rather pay up to 60+ a month for phone service & still run the risk of problems, or spend 20 for a year (Magic Jack is actually running a special where you get like 5 years for 59.95) and have a few problems now and again? That is a huge savings every year. I have had my Magic Jack for around 2 months, and I may have dropped one or two calls since I've had it, A LOT less dropped calls than my cell phone through T-Mobile. & I had full service and paid 100 month for my phone. I really enjoy the magic jack! What a great savings!

Reading all the negatives about MJ,
AND just being a dumb hillbilly from Tennessee.
I have came up with my own version of minimum requirements for MJ to work it's best.
Minimum of 1meg Internet connection speed (Website for good speed test below)

http://infospeed.verizon.net/speedtest/speedtest500k.asp

Windows XP with a minimum processor such as Intel Celeron M
And a puter that can stay on 24/7 with a UPS backup.
All the above has made me a happy camper with the MJ

But what do I know? I only worked 29.7 years for A.T.&T./Ma Bell Telephone

I have came up with my own version of minimum requirements for MJ to work it’s best.

I was searching for sending fax through MJ and I got this link. After reading so many comments on MJ; I thought to share my experience.

First of all I am more than Happy with MagicJack. I am having 4 magicjack with me and 3 are working perfect from more than 2 years. 1 was damaged which we got replaced later and it is working very well now.

I am quite surprised to read all the negative comments... I am using all 4 MagicJack's in India and we had some issues initially but all were addressed and fixed with software upgrades till date. We have a lot of problem in basic internet connection here still this MJ works very well without call drops and without so many issues addressed above.

My opinion about these issues is that the people who face these issues do not have any patience or must not know how to work on computers and internet.

Keep you PC clean, up to date and upgrade if necessary and I think you will never have this problem again...
