The Omidyar Network (created eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam to “empower people globally so that they can make the most of their talents to positively impact the world”) has appointed a new leader, reports VentureBeat. Matt Bannick, who was an executive at eBay for 8 years, will take over as managing partner next month with the goal of more than doubling the group’s staff in the next 12-18 months…it’s currently 30. Omidyar has invested in companies such as Digg, community news and event sites like Backfence and Eventful and clean-tech companies like Ethos Water.

  1. I recently sent an initial query to Pierre c/o his personal assistant. Immedieately she replied for him "he doesn't invest in anything environmental."

I found this comment by a personal "gatekeeper" to be most perplexing. Your note above about Omidyar investing in a clean water company to be the third example I've seen in the past couple of weeks that Pierre isn't getting the drift of what is coming his way. It could be a new Ebay to something bigger green than we're all used to.
