Option_globesurfer_iconEngadget shows us the Option GlobeSurfer iCON today, a unique modem that holds nice little surprise in the hinge: a USB connector. While I can’t say I’d really want a clamshell-looking device sticking out of my UMPC or notebook, I do crave the mobile connectivity that a device like this provides. The iCON is HSUPA-capable at 7.2 Mbps on the downside with 2 Mbps going back up. Who needs a USB cable or the slowness of Bluetooth tethering when you can slap a clammy in your lappy? Then again, you always have those options…oh..I should have prefaced that with a *pun alert*….

  1. Does anyone know how these actually work in terms of international roaming? I’m looking for a device that’ll keep me connected worldwide… But I don’t really want to have to figure out how to sign up to different networks in different countries without really knowing the costs involved… Anyone? Reviews? A product that’ll fill my niche?
