Camino 1.1 Beta released

Om Malik, Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 12:19 PM PT Comments (1)

Camino team released the beta 1.1 version of their Mac only Mozilla-based browser on Friday. Nice improvements, and worth the download, despite the beta tag. Two features I like: spell checking and session restore - which is enough of a reason for not using Firefox.

VoIP boom to lift Veraz, BroadSoft

Om Malik, Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 9:24 AM PT Comments (3)

Vonage’s trials and tribulations not withstanding, the Voice over IP market is booming, and that bodes well for start-ups like Veraz Networks and BroadSoft, likely to go public later this year.
Carriers, big and small, are spending liberally on VoIP equipment - $3.3 billion in 2006 which is up 32% from 2005 - according to Campbell, [...]

Fonpods Down for the Count?

Paul Kapustka, Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 1:03 PM PT Comments (2)

Following our story about Qwest’s lawsuit against Iowa-based “free calling” services, it looks like one of the named defendants, Fonpods, is offline. The Fonpods website seems redirected to a curious message about it being a Qwest page, so it looks like no more free podcasts for now. Calls and emails to Fonpods’ founder Ted Heieck [...]

Weekend Choice: A-Rod or Jeter?

The fact A-Rod is married and has a kid and Jeter is [...]

Netvibes2Go, Pretty Good Actually

Om Malik, Friday, February 23, 2007 at 10:39 AM PT Comments (9)

Netvibes, the Paris-based personalized home page service, has started offering a mobile version called Netvibes2Go. The service lets users access some of the more useful Netvibes modules – iCal, GMail, AOL Mail, To-Do Lists and few more – on a mobile phone.
The set-up is pretty easy: create a tab in Netvibes called “Mobile,” and drop [...]

Windows Live Shopping…RIP

Om Malik, Friday, February 23, 2007 at 8:56 AM PT Comments (0)

Windows Live Shopping beta is finished and so is the service. Visitors are politely told: use MSN Shopping, and redirects after a 15 second delay. Guess, this one didn’t pan out! via

Finally, Lil’ Peace on Planet Mobile

Katie Fehrenbacher, Friday, February 23, 2007 at 8:33 AM PT Comments (3)

At least for this week, the mobile industry’s largest and most litigious companies laid down some of their arms and gave us oh-so brief warm and snuggly feelings. OK, with the exception of that whole Alcatel-Lucent/Microsoft thing.
Cisco’s battle over the iPhone ended with a shared trademark and some very vague plans to possibly, maybe, one [...]
