Vista_inkThe lack of HID drivers on the Samsung Q1 series of UMPC has plagued us for a while; early Vista builds had few issues, but the final release is a little more…shall we say….stringent on the Tablet PC functional requirements. Like many others, I miss the ability to ink my e-mails in Outlook 2007, for example.

A little elbow grease combined with solid technical knowledge provides a short term solution: Ctitanic tricks his Office 2007 installation into allowing the Ink Tool button. He has the registry key information right here for you, but be warned: the key is reset upon reboot. I’ll personally wait for the long term solution: a set of HID drivers from Samsung. Perhaps upon the release of the Samsung Q1P with Vista pre-installed?

  1. Samsung have released a BIOS upgrade (20MA) for the Q1 – “Updates for Windows Vista”:

  2. Yeah, my work around was safe because it was done using a vbscript. but, anyway… and what a coincidence… just after I found that, Samsung has released a BIOS with Vista Support!

  3. Is this why I couldn’t get a UX with Vista to ink in Office 2007? Is there anything I can do to get ink on my Sony UX280P once I load Vista?

  4. BTW- when I tried it out I was at Sony Style I was on a UX390 with Vista and Office 2007 installed.

hello, i have exactly the same problem, but in a tablet PC i recently bourt (HP TX1080ea) just like the samsung q1 it has touch screen (the type that i can use with my fingers and not just a pen unlike some other tablet/laptop convertibls out there) well any way i installed offise 2007 and the ink feture dosent apear to want to be openend, however when i select some inking i had done on a diffrend document in the past, a totaly new tab apears offering me the abilitie to ink along with other functions but as soon as i deselect the inking that i did with office 2003) then the tab disapears.

i home microsoft sends a patch to sort that out, personaly i liked the old styl without the tabs and just file, edit, inseart, view and all the other stooth,

office 2007 word is rely irratating for a tablet PC like my owm

    thankes
