Things like this end up reminding me of how misused advertising is today. My first reaction is to rail against this simple because i'm so used to ads being not only intrusive, but obnoxious AND useless as well. It also doesn't help when people like Vipul put it into terms of "milk more money out of it than you could just selling it once".

I think the mitigating factor here is that cell games are, frankly, so inconsequential. I won't tolerate any sort of ads in a proper PC or console game even if it's some lame alternative to shareware or whatever. But for something to kill a few minutes with, on a platform that can't really justify charging more than $2 anyway? Sure, why not? Especially if it manages to use that advertising as it should be used -- as a vehicle for letting me know about other interesting stuff.
