Delays or not, San Francisco will get city-wide wifi eventually. The potential for every school, coffee shop, library, and home in the city to have net access is simply too big of a political carrot for the Board of Supes to ignore, especially in a town that prides itself so much on both supporting the downtrodden and setting an example for the rest of the country.
Obviously, the Board members are going to pull out every stop to make sure that they get a share of the credit for this project, but they aren't stupid enough (well, Daly is) to kill something like this.

This is great for Google and Earthlink, because it will delay (or maybe end) the need for them to spend millions on launching this service only to have it not work and/or get little or no usage. All with the convenient scapegoats of a board of supervisors that would make a 60's hippie love child look like a neocon and a drunk philandering mayor.
