I think Voip will revolutionise the mobile world, especially when You look at the international call charges that apply to Cell phones. I use Rebtel - http://www.rebtel.com/free1
To call my Brother in germany and sister in New Zealand

I have used Vonage for 24 mos, mostly happily. We even have E911. My biggest disappointment has been that the service tax has increased by $5 over the past 12 mos. Anyways if Vonage falls out and can not deliver service or do it cheaply I will be switching to Skype and not a telco.

"give the communicating public an alternative to sending checks to the incumbents."

I hear what you are saying, and I agree in principle with the direction in which you're headed. But, the last time I looked, MSO- and FiOS- monthly bills were quite hefty, each amounting to over a hundred dollars per month when fully loaded. We pay through the nose for access to those "voice companies" you listed, is what I'm saying, lest we lose sight of this fact and add credence to the frivolous claims establisehd by Whitacre and others who seek to protect their pipes, fwiw.

Great commentary!

In Germany I am too researching for an article about mobile VoIP. I wonder why companies like Skype, Jajah or Rebtel deny to me that they are taking away minutes from the mobile operators.

Nobody wants to admit that he is a "minute stealer"!

They say that they are only an addition to traditional cell phones. That people would stay with their mobile carrier, only making some additional phone calls by using the new services.

Also the mobile operators denied to feel the impact of the new "mices".

Is it really true that mobile operators aren't loosing, especially the expensive calls to other countries?

Or simply the "mices" and the "elephants" don't want to admit it? What are their reasons to do so?
