ok! cut the rubbish!

the bottom line is this.

if your going for vista make sure you have this type of pc fro any thing above vista basic.

3gb ram
800+ mb display hd version
a dual 3 gig cpu or quad.
200+gig hard drive " hybrid would be nice "
1000mb lan
pci express connections
usb 2+
firewire
and no old tatty drivers! " those old scanners etc"!

now finally we will start to do some good gaming.

and leave the pirate shit behind!

but if your just jo smoe.

then install only the vista home basic thats the xp version " and it will go xp sp2 backward " and run just the same. so dont give me the crap about your old stuff not working or slow.
thats like putting a new super engine in a clapped out old truck with the brakes locked, up.

get a life you idiots.

your a consumer so consume.

vista for pc console for gaming knob head.

I recieved a copy of Vista Business Thursday, Jan 25th. I was a little worried about it at first, but decided to go ahead and do it.

As a PC gamer, I have to say... DON'T GO TO VISTA, YET!

Half of my hardware was not supported. X-Fi soundcards don't work correctly (EAX was taken out my Microsoft and Creative is working on a fix to put it back in), my 7600 GT's fan runs at 100% all the time with no rest, and some of my peripherals don't work.

The OS itself is amazing and beautiful. As for games, nothing using the Open GL engine works. No Quake 4, Doom3, or Prey. It ran, but it ran like it was running through mud with concrete shoes. I installed and played some other games that were supported and suffered from around a 10%-30% reduced frame rate! Vista sucks for gaming, right now. I have a nice machine that runs every game on high settings 1280x1024 in XP.

In conclusion, I would say that Vista is not worth the frustration for gamers at this time. Wait a while until the drivers are updated and games are patched. There just isn't anything that is worth updating for right now. As for me, I re-installed XP and I am happy to have my PC back and have all my games back.

It'd be kind of neat if tiny games themselves were the desktop. Some of that effortless abstract stuff would go right in. And maybe whatever state you left the game in would continue to be the desktop.

But the thing with DX10 conflicts a bit with Carmack's take on it. I think i'm pretty much numb to anything that doesn't help me make a connection with what i'd do in reality, so i'm betting that DX10 still won't mean shit without developers taking a few sips from the cup of Warren Spector.

On that note though, with serious interaction being the next path of necessity, it would be nice to shunt some of the physics crap off to the video card. I'd gladly take a relative hit in visual quality for the sake of not having to care which material object is manipulatable and which isn't. It's really about time things started moving away from the notion of "look but don't touch".
