The Wii interests me because it is the first really mass commercial expression of all the motion sensing stuff that was going on in Virtual Reality yeras ago.

Add it to the 3D worlds being rendered, and the rise of broadband video media and I think we are seeing the way immersive viseo will actually work in the next few years.

I second every word written by Om Malik. I also wrote about it on my blog yesterday: While I remember me playing Video Games alone every 1st of January, it was really different yesterday. We had some guests in the house and all of them gave Wii a try. Something that wouldn't happen with XBOX 360 or PS3, even if they used Super-Duper-Ultra-Extra High Defenition TVs… :D

I think there are many different console markets. I love the PSP, hate the PS, and now will buy the Wii. Its got nothing to do with the brands. I think video game industry is entering a phase where content matters more. Sort of like art house movies by Miramax versus blockbusters by Speilberg. They are both awesome and enjoyable. I think games are going to be like that - increasingly.

I have a PC purely so I can play Age of Empires. Man that is one addictive game.

I'm glad there are companies like Nintendo that are thinking differently and expanding our notion of what constitutes a video game console, but I hope this doesn't discourage Microsoft and Sony from continuing to pursue cutting edge technology, and instead inspire them to push more boundaries in different ways. The Wii is a much better experience, I just hate seeing superior technology lose. Remember the concorde…

I could not agree more. I picked up one at Costco (luckily, someone was returning an un-opened one and I picked it up in mid December).
Ended up playing Sports for hours. Besides tennis and bowling, if you are looking for a workout in your living room, I would suggest playing 4-5 rounds of boxing. Gives my shoulders some nice movement before I start the day :P
