BSNL promises Broadband 2007 for India

Indian incumbent phone company, BSNL is betting that 2007 is going to be a big year for broadband and is spending to make it real. The company is planning to boost speeds of their DSL offering to 2 megabits per second from 256 kbps. They will sell this service for about 250 rupees or about $7 a month. BSNL hopes that this bargain basement price would allow the company to add over 800,000 new connections in 2007. Continue »

Does anyone remember Sendo? The upstart handset maker was going to shake up the mobile phone business with radical designs and latest technology. Sendo wanted to bye synonymous with smartphones. Yahoo Local allows user contributions

Yahoo PR emailed to say users can now edit Yahoo Local listings and add their own ratings and reviews, collections, photos, and tags directly. Says the company, “For quality control purposes, these suggestions do not change a listing permanently, but are included as notes that can be reviewed by other users who can then agree or disagree to help denote whether the content should be trusted.” Windows Live Local also allows some user annotations, but this is a great step forward by Yahoo. I’d love to see this user-submitted information go even further, and be layered right onto the map. Continue »
