Hey, who needs A2DP Bluetooth support, when your wireless speakers use 802.11a/g WiFi? Avega Systems offers just that with their Oyster Loudspeaker System: each speaker unit integrates a WiFi receiver to accept tunes over your network connected computer. The Oysters support various audio formats:

  • Compressed: AAC, MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC
  • Surround: Dolby – Digital, EX, Prologic IIx, DTS – ES, 96/24, Neo:6

Although it’s nice to pump your PC tunes over the wireless ether, I’d like to see more standard audio components build in WiFi and take the PC out of the equation. Until then, this looks like a viable option, especially if you’ve got a large digital audio collection or use your PC as a media center for television and movies.
