Following yesterday’s news that FIM topped Yahoo in comScore Media Metrix page views for the first time, BetaNews has a solid look at the effects on traffic of switching to AJAX-driven pages. (AJAX, aka Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, allows information to be refreshed without reloading pages.) Yahoo had warned when it launched its redesign with AJAX that page views would come down. The IAB and others have urged the web analytic companies to reform their measures to take issues like this into account but the current stats remain based on the “traditional” model.

It's amazing how advertisement agencies and companies are taking long to figure out that the Internet is as slippy as a wet soap. There are no fixed rules and AJAX is here to attest it. Staying with "old" rules means simply more trouble to introduce feasible advertising in this ever changing and increasingly sophisticated media.
