[...] Cisco is making a major push in this area, and there are a number of well-funded smaller companies with hardware for sale today. Setting up telepresence-connected meeting rooms isn’t the stuff of science fiction these days, but simply a matter of finding the appropriate budget, and that budget is getting less astronomical all the time.

Cisco C-Scape 2006…

This past Tuesday and Wednesday, Cisco held their C-Scape conference. Cisco recently unveiled their slogan “The Human Network,” along with a new logo and a massive marketing campaign. The conference was used to further promote this vision…

Cisco media player -- here is a space crying out for a decent solution. The avialable hardware is fine, but the software is still circa 1995 unless you go DIY with a PC in which case you are spending big money. I just wonder if media player + Cisco's concept of storage on the network is a good mix. If I am still beholden to some network provider to control what content I can play on my media player, how is it different from traditional VOD? What I want is the iPod for this space -- maybe Apple can deliver again.

Nothing unexpected from somebody who's hardware will determine what experience (if any) the user will have on her end. There's no value proposition if Cisco was merely a service provider and a plumber, right? Somebody needs to let the ISPs and content aggregators control the pipe. Might as well be Chambers' company.
