Japan’s NTT DoCoMo has teamed up with Rakuten to set up an online auction service taking on Yahoo and eBay amongst others. The two are setting up a new company and DoCoMo, the mobile giant is paying $36 million for a 40% stake in the company. “The new auction site is designed to help NTT’s wireless arm compete with rivals such as KDDI and Softbank which are offering new services such as digital TV and music downloads to lure users,” Telegeography adds.
