U.S.-based web 2.0 companies have raised $455.5 million in 79 deals so far this year, according to Dow Jones VentureOne figures posted today (can’t find the press release online yet). That’s out of $1.63 billion total invested in 198 consumer technology companies so far this year, and it’s more than twice the amount directed at web 2.0 deals at this point last year. (VentureOne defines web 2.0 companies as those that fit into a list of activities (e.g. collaboration), applications (e.g. podcasting), and technologies (e.g. AJAX).)
