Details are sketchy, but this report in the German press reveals that MTV is planning a pre-paid mobile together with an as yet unnamed mobile operator. VIVA, the other music brand under the MTV umbrella, launched a pre-paid service with KPN-owned E-Plus last year. (E-Plus is morphing into a music-centric service and recently sealed a deal with Universal Music to offer music content under the vybemobile brand.) VIVA’s pre-paid service is a music-focussed offer that features simple voice and text tariffs. (Additionally, users who buy pre-paid cards from VIVA see the company’s logo in display.) MTV, however, may take it a step further and launch a post-paid offer, the report says. No word on whether this means MTV in Germany is on its way to becoming a full-fledged MNVO. MTV told me it plans to release more information in November. VIVA is expected to count 100,000 pre-paid customers for the VIVA branded service by end-2007.
