Kevin is all enamored with those 32 GB solid state drives (SSD) that are fast becoming all the rage.  The high price will keep them from becoming a mainstream item for some time but I know many of us are curious how these babies compare to standard hard drives in both speed and battery consumption.  PC World ran some benchmarks comparing the performance of the Samsung 32 GB SSD with a couple of hard drives and for the most part the SSD showed its stuff by outperforming the spinning competition on almost all tests.  Take a look at the article for an explanation of all the tests.  Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get our hands on one of those shiny new Samsung Q1 UMPCs with the 32 GB flash drive?  Wouldn’t it?

  1. that’s not a really big different between the SSD and a 5400 RPM HDD. Probably with a 7200 RPM HDD it wont be any difference.

I’m really not impressed at all. Only seeking files you can see a noticeable difference.
