Jamster will launch a D2C full track music download service in Germany in August, before a wider European rollout. The Jamster Music service will have 500,000 songs and will operate through a Java client, which will also allow chat and playlist sharing. The Java client will use Jamster’s own DRM, but there’s no indication as to whether that will be OMA 2.0 compliant.
“The ‘all you can eat’ rental option is likely to cost Euro15 a month, with individual tracks priced between 99 cents and Euro1.49. Jamster will use operator direct billing in Germany rather PSMS and is in discussions with operators in other countries to so the same where possible.” Data charges aren’t included, however, so the songs could become far more expensive.
