Here in Denver, Comcast is signing up 1000 per week to VOIP taking 1000 ole Qwest customers per week…combine the 6 mb Comcast Nuke to the mixture and you have a WIN /WIN of why Comcast techs working 7 days a week 12 to 16 hours per day! Qwest will feel the pain trying to give away an $87 package to keep customers…Comcast at $99 is killing them!

Qwest has other issues: a lot of rural US customers. In addition to not having deep pockets, the work it will take to wire up their part of the country with fiber or whatever is going to be tough.

I live out in Qwest country. It took them a very long time to get 1.5mb DSL where I live. It's a remote DSLAM fed by T1s, so there's no wait it's going faster. I can't imagine how long it's going to take for them to roll out Fiber or even upgraded DSL to my neck of the woods. Meanwhile, the local cable company (a small-time player) has 8mb/1.5 and could easily up that.
