DNA: The draft Broadcast Bill will not deal with convergence technologies such as mobile TV and IPTV. According to an official of the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry, which is preparing the bill, broadcasting linked to convergence will not be under their purview.
So the broadcast bill will only matter to cable TV broadcasters and direct-to-home (DTH) platforms, while mobile phone service providers and IPTV servce providers would not have to bother about this bill. Only when the definition of broadcasting is expanded to make it technology-neutral, convergent media like mobile TV will be included in the Bill.
