Avantgo_logoI haven’t used AvantGo in years, but I was a heavy user back in the day. It was a great way to use a PocketPC without any native connectivity options to grab news from the web. For some folks it still is. Going forward however, it looks like AvantGo won’t be an information type in ActiveSync based on this FAQ on the new 6.2 beta version.

On one hand, I can see why AvantGo should synch from it’s own client. Not everyone is using ActiveSync on a local host and more devices have their own connectivity options with WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G data. On the other hand, the main reason for the change appears to be based on ActiveSync hitting the AvantGo servers every five minutes. It would have been a more elegant solution for AvantGo to work with Microsoft on an ActiveSync enhancement to fix the issue. Perhaps they did to no avail?
