IM.com, a Palo Alto, CA-based online video startup funded by Scott Blum, the founder of Buy.com (through his venture firm Think Tank), has launched. The focus, the company says, is on HD video (720 pixels), and launched with two HD channels — BuyTV (Buy.com own video service) and Rocketboom.
The service is a downloadable app, which delivers video to the client/desktop…there are umpteen other clones/service like this, so it will be a tough sell.
Starting on May 15, IM will also launch a cable TV advertising campaign, to get the word out about the service, said CEO Andy Leak. The campaign will target trendier programming, including some MTV shows.
