UK retailer PocketPC Solutions informed me that they are taking pre-orders for the TabletKiosk eo v7110 UMPC on their web site. The eo with 512 MB of RAM and a 40 GB hard drive will run you 750 GBP including VAT and delivery. PocketPC Solutions expects to start delivery the first half of May.

  1. Yikes! Talk about sticker shock. That’s $1,318, at current conversion rates. Heck, that’s even more than 1,000 Euros (1,074 EUR). Subtract that hideous VAT, and it still comes out to more than $1,000. I thought $1,000 — which many of us still find quite high — was the initial target of these early models. I hope Moore’s law (or whatever its economic derivative is) works fast with these new toys.

  2. Scott, the sticker price for that model in the US is indeed $999 USD (though I’m not certain if that includes delivery or not).

There does seem to be quite a bit of price creep in the UK on personal electronics; dunno if that’s due to a “hidden” tax/tarrif/duty, or shipping costs, or what, but I’ve seen a lot of prices in the UK that are far higher than here in North America.

Seeing that 750 GBP pricetag makes me a bit more hopeful for the North American pricetag on the Samsung Q1, quoted at 799 GBP, for making that $1000-$1100 USD price range.
