I haven’t seen anybody really comment on what I believe is the coolest innovation on some UMPCs. A number of OEM devices (like this Samsung) have a stand integrated into the back of the units. This is such a useful feature and I think owners will find this simple thing to be extremely useful. Kudos to the OEMs for adding that little touch.

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more, James. Including a built-in stand on the back of slates is something I’ve been talking about for several years and it is good to see them finally listening to the consumers.

You are right – that little feature has escaped alot of the coverage and it is worth talking about. Maybe existing slate oems will take notice and do the same thing.

  4. Yikes! I gotta razz you on this one.

If the coolest “innovation” on the UMPC is a little plastic pop-out stand on the back, I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to buy one of these version 1.0 devices. My new Palm TX has all the innovation I can stand, right now (I say that very tongue-in-cheek).

As an aside, as I stare at the little plastic pop-out stand on the back of my 15-year old Sony portable SW radio, “innovation” isn’t quite the word I would use to describe it.
