Sprint has announced the upcoming (spring) launch of Sprint PCS Picture Mail groups, which lets subscribers “add pictures, video clips and text whenever they want at no additional cost. A feature allows community members to be notified whenever content is updated”.
“As cameraphones have become mainstream, wireless phone users are looking for new, creative ways to communicate with pictures,” Pierre Barbeau, Sprint’s general manager of visual communications, said in a statement. “Sprint PCS Picture Mail Groups is the next innovation in the mobile imaging evolution, enabling customers to create a forum where they can communicate via pictures, video clips, text messages and audio clips while on the go.”
Sprint claims that research shows that 55% of cameraphone users have an interest using the cameraphone, and probably wants to encourage that. I’d be interested to see how this service fares compared to music downloads and mobile TV.
