I am one of those shoppers who likes to do online research about a book or product before I make a purchase. I find blogger reviews especially useful to help make a decision if a particular item is worth buying or not. Toshiba in Japan has developed technology that helps consumers do just this using a mobile phone. Shoppers interested in a particular product can take a photo of the item’s bar code and Toshiba’s technology will rapidly search for blogger reviews and present the results on the phone. Think about that for a moment, this is mobile technology that is extremely useful for just about everyone with a mobile phone. You can instantly see if reviews are trashing or recommending the product right there in the store. I suspect this technology will only be available in Japan initially but I would love to see this come to the US.
